What is the Role of Adding Steel Fiber to Refractory Castables?
Refractory castable is a granular and powdered material made from a refractory material with a certain amount of binder. The refractory castable has a high fluidity and is formed by casting. The main role of adding steel fiber to refractory castables are:
(1) Enhance toughness, improve stress-resistance and improve mechanical shock resistance;
(2) Improve thermal shock resistance and improve resistance to cracking and spalling;
(3) Inhibition of line shrinkage after curing, drying, and heat treatment. The amount of steel fiber added is generally 0.6 to 2.5% by volume.
So it is also called steel fiber refractory castable.
