    Low-carbon magnesia carbon bricks generally refer to a type of low-carbon composite material with a total carbon content not exceeding 8%, which is made of magnesia and graphite as the main raw materials, with a certain amount of metal additives added, and combined with an organic binder.

This is the inevitable result of carbon not being able to form a continuous phase or the decrease in the degree of continuous phase.

    In order to improve the spalling resistance of low-carbon magnesia carbon bricks, ultrafine graphite can be used instead of flake graphite. When the total carbon content exceeds 6%, the superiority of ultrafine graphite can be reflected in the spalling resistance of magnesia carbon bricks. The addition of ultrafine graphite can inhibit the overburning of bricks and reduce the elastic modulus of bricks. Therefore, the spalling resistance of low-carbon MgO-C bricks can be improved. In addition, by surface treatment of magnesia sand, more continuously distributed micropores can be formed in the brick blank during the heat treatment process. Thereby, the thermal conductivity of magnesia carbon bricks is reduced and the thermal shock resistance is improved. Since the carbonized structure of traditional phenolic resin is a glassy structure, the material has poor anti-stripping properties. However, using an organic binder that does not contain phenolic resin can improve this problem.
